David brings over a decade of experience as a global and strategic leader of talent development within multi-national corporations, leading teams of regional learning leaders and managing multi-million dollar projects.

Never content with the status quo, he continuously challenges organizations to influence and shape the learning culture to support the development of their employees. David’s expertise includes learning reinforcement, manager enablement, learning technologies, competency models, evaluation and measurement, sales enablement and leader development. He is also a skilled facilitator with multiple professional certifications.

David is a curious, life-long learner who defines his purpose as enabling others to find their path to authenticity in the workplace. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Central Indiana Chapter of the Association of Talent Development and contributes to the University of Indianapolis’ Institute for Postindustrial Leadership.

SyNet (home of PPS International Limited-SyNet Americas) is pleased to announce that our second global cohort of 50 SyNet facilitators participated in our virtual instruction certification,  Standing Out as a Virtual Facilitator. In 2020, PPS International Limited-SyNet Americas developed the micro-learning-based curriculum for the Standing Out as a Virtual Facilitator certification program based upon research and observation of facilitators from around the world who excelled in developing rapport, building engagement, facilitating best practices and application, and using technology in the virtual classroom. The program, which is delivered via micro-learning lessons that allow participants to score points for participation and proficiency, focuses on nearly 50 specific behaviors that are associated with excellence in facilitating virtual sessions.  Topical areas in the virtual instruction certification program included:

• Preparing Yourself and Your Physical Space (including lessons on specific technology)
• Preparing Your Content
• Preparing Your ‘Virtual Room’
• Getting the Session Started
• Creating and Maintaining Rapport
• Building Engagement, Keeping Attention and Increasing Interest
• Working with a Producer

The lessons were built using custom-built animated videos, self-paced activities, mini-assessments and special application assignments. Lessons in the virtual instruction certification were designed to be completed in as little as 3 minutes or up to 30 minutes. To support our faculty as they facilitate virtual instructor-led training, each received a copy of our Standing Out as a Virtual Facilitator toolkit that reminds and reinforces the behaviors that bring success in virtual instructor-led training.  We appreciate the time and dedication of our global faculty who completed this six-week virtual instruction certification. Congratulations!

We appreciate and value our relationship with our consultants. They help make us who we are. Not only was this a time for learning, but a time to have fun, connect and see each other. So often our interactions are driven by email and phone as we are separated by distance, so being able to get together in person is a special opportunity (especially given our current state of isolation due to COVID-19).

Our first day together offered a different type of experience for our facilitators – they were true participants themselves. By participating in experiential activities from our 21st Century Competencies, our faculty were able to discover more of their innate capacity, feel more comfortable in today’s challenging environment and less prone to overwhelm and to sub-optimal responses (at work, at home, in society at large).

We then ended our day by relaxing, taking in a show and getting to spend time with each other!

On the next day, we went back to the basics. One of our principles at PPS International Limited is that our trainers use the skills they teach. Therefore, we demonstrated and practiced some of our foundational skills. Doing this enforces the regular use and practice of the skills naturally so that is provides and additional level of credibility for faculty. We also spent time discussing and demonstrating best practices as well as sharing tips and tools with each other.

Overall, the training was a success as many of our faculty were able to meet each other face to face and share best practices. We look forward to further development with our staff and our faculty.

The rigorous certification process (or, recertification process for some team members) included a week-long, multi-level workshop plus two, two-hour informational webinars, followed by a 90-minute live, extensive case study debriefing simulation in order to demonstrate individual mastery of the assessment, the various reports, interpretation and debriefing skills.

All four members of our team—Alex Grimshaw, Janet Langley, Kayla Burns and Kelly Fairbairn completed the process and achieved full Harrison Assessment accreditation.

The Harrison Assessment has many uses. It helps hiring managers identify prospective employees who meet job requirements and are comfortable in the organizational culture. It guides individuals in creating and implementing development. It helps leaders to know how best to motivate direct reports and encourage teamwork. The information collected with the Harrison Assessment can also be used as a training needs assessment.
